Nutrition And Hydration Tips
Food and water planning for long refuge-to-refuge days, especially the emergency-shelter half of the route.
The route is long enough that food and water become strategy, not snacks. Organised refuges can help with meals, but emergency shelters shift the responsibility back to the hiker: light, high-energy food, enough water, and the discipline to eat and drink before the body forces a stop.
Planning Food And Water
Plan around foods with strong calorie-to-weight value and simple cooking: nuts, bars, bread, pasta, chocolate, halva, tuna, eggs, ready soups, sauces, and rice instead of heavier alternatives. Count at least two litres of water per day for drinking and cooking, more when heat, pace, or section length demands it.
